Assessment, Intake, and Client Services Program (AICS)

St. Martin's AICS program is multi-faceted. Our personnel include the intake coordinator/program manager, the psychiatric nurse, and the client peer advocate.

The Intake Coordinator/Program Manager meets with clients who have been referred to St. Martin's from word of mouth, our day shelter, or other community or governmental agencies to perform assessments to determine if they qualify for one of St. Martin's three primary Behavioral Health Programs.

If they qualify then we stay in touch with these clients in order to try to bring them into the most appropriate program when openings occur. We are also responsible for the centralized intake process by which all potential clients pass in order to be qualified and accepted into our programs. If they do not qualify or cannot wait for potential openings then we provide resources, contacts, and referrals to the agencies or community organizations that could most likely assist them.

Our staff also includes the behavioral health psychiatric nurse who has many responsibilities as well. He administers medication for many of our behavioral health clients, is a licensed hypnotist and a substance abuse intern, and co-facilitates substance abuse and mental health recovery groups. Other duties include assisting with medical emergencies on site and advising behavioral health clients on mental health and substance abuse recovery. The current AICS psychiatric nurse has also done outreach to the homeless and to prostitutes on the streets for a number of years. He has also spent time working in Africa.

AICS' third staff member is the client peer advocate. Our client peer advocate works with our psychiatrist on Mondays and with clients on Tuesdays and Wednesdays to assist them with any pressing issues, advice, and as a recovering peer and mentor who provides a positive role model and can assist in whatever capacity is needed by our clients.
